  • Complete and submit Application for Change of Supervisor/ Appointment of Co-Supervisor









  • Declaration of Intention to Submit Thesis/ Portfolio
    4 months before actual submission
  • Complete and submit Form TAS-1 with 1-2 pages summary
  • Supervisor & Head of Graduate Division to approve proposed date for thesis/portfolio submission and proposed thesis/portfolio title
  • Graduate Division to forward signed Form TAS-1 to GSO, with nominations of Thesis Assessment Committee members on Forms TAD-1A for Master's Students and Forms TAD-1C for Doctoral Students

    Note: For completeness of the External Examiner's information, Graduate Divisions are reminded to provide External Examiner's Chinese Name on Form TAD-1A/1-C, if any.

  • Supervisor & Head of Graduate Division to approve and forward signed Form TAS-2 to GSO

  • Complete Form TAD-2A / TAD/S1 and forward to GSO
  • Deferment of Thesis/Portfolio Submission
    Defer the submission of thesis/portfolio beyond the originally proposed date
  • Complete and submit Form TAS-3 to Graduate Division for approval
  • Supervisor & Head of Graduate Division to approve the application and forward signed Form TAS-3 to GSO

    Submission of Thesis/Portfolio

    According to the proposed date of thesis/portfolio submission
    Upload the following documents to CUSIS (User Guide)
  • First draft of thesis/portfolio
  • An abstract of thesis/portfolio in both Chinese and English
  • Thesis title page (sample)
  • Separate page on composition of Thesis Assessment Committee (if applicable, please check with Graduate Division) (sample)
  • Completed Form TAS-5 with endorsement from the Supervisor and Head of Graduate Division
  • Receipt of Examination Fee
  • Receipt of Publication Fee (only applicable to Doctoral students)
  • Note: There should be no blank pages in the thesis.


    Submit to Graduate Division
  • *3-4 copies (for dispatch to IE)
  • (* Number of copies depends on the number of IEs)
  • Graduate Division to distribute thesis/portfolio and Form TAD-3 ("Thesis Assessment Report") to IE

    Oral Examination

    After submission of thesis/portfolio to Graduate Division and GSO
  • Attend oral examination
  • Upon receipt of the first draft of thesis from GSO, Graduate Division to arrange oral examination within 2 months

    Assessment Reports

    Immediately after oral examination








  • Head of Graduate Division to collect IE's reports and complete Form TAD-5

    Assessment Results

    Available upon completion of assessment process
  • Check progress on GS Platform
  • Act according to instruction of Graduate Division/GSO

    Grade I (Pass)
  • Upload the following documents to CUSIS (User Guide)
  • Final version of thesis/portfolio
  • An abstract of thesis/portfolio in both Chinese and English
  • Thesis title page (sample)
  • Separate page on composition of Thesis Assessment Committee (if applicable, please check with Graduate Division) (sample)
  • Completed Form TAS-7 with endorsement from the Supervisor if minor revision is required
  • Completed Application for Keeping Thesis Confidential (TAS-9), if necessary
  • For PhD student whose thesis was written in Chinese, you are required to submit a separate set of documents in English (sample), which includes a title page and a separate page on composition of Thesis Assessment Committee (if applicable. Please check with Graduate Division). The separate set of documents is needed for publication with ProQuest.
  • Note: There should be no blank pages in the thesis.


    Grade II (This submission NOT passed. Re-submission allowed and re-examination required)
  • Re-submit thesis/portfolio (repeat above procedures)
  • Pay re-submission fee and continuation fee (if applicable)

    Grade III (Failure - no re-submission allowed)
  • To discontinue studies

    Grade IV (Recommended for award of Research Master's degree) (For Research Doctoral programmes only)
  • Wait for decision of GCExCo and Senate
  • Head of Graduate Division to
  • Complete & return to GSO Forms TAD-5, TAD-6,TAD-7 with a copy of IE's reports
  • Copy the above Forms to Supervisor, with a copy of all Examiner's reports
  • Copy Form TAD-6 (with Part A of examiners' assessment report) to student for information and follow up action
  • Provide justification to GSO for case of Grade IV

    Supervisor to give advice to student, if applicable
